Toyota Rent a Car with Green Heart
The National Fund of Forest Financing (FONAFIFO) together with the Program of Environmental Services carries out the task of protecting forests in Costa Rica by means of a pecuniary reward to those who contribute with this initiative.
Our company is well-aware of the work that is necessary to develop within the private sector concerning the protection of the environment; for this, we sponsor this initiative with the support of our clientele as to compensate the carbon emissions resulting from the use of vehicles for the transport of tourists and corporate clients.
Toyota Rent a Car, a company of 100% Costa Rican capital, has decided to become in the future into a carbon neutral entity adhering to the country’s policy to reach this goal by the year 2021. This is one of our steps towards achieving said objective, focused on mitigating the emission of CO2 and, thus, the greenhouse effect, which reduction is essential in the struggle against the climatic change.
Our rates include a green heart fee of $1.85 for each car rental; this money will be devoted to buy bonds from the National Fund of Forest Financing (FONAFIFO) and to finance forest plantations to compensate the emission of CO2 of our fleet.

The Certificate for Sustainable Tourism is a program to standardize, classify and certify a tourism company according on the level that its operations fulfill with a model of sustainability, mainly in management of natural resource,cultural and social.
In order to be certified are considered the following scopes:
Physical biological environment --- Infrastructure and Services --- Clients --- Socio economic environment
Each of these specific scopes are assessed through questionnaires and measured using a scale from 0 to 5 levels of sustainability.
