Location: Caribbean coast, Limón
Province, approximately 80 km northeast of the city of Limón.
Tortuguero National Park is an important area of the country
due to its remaining tropical rainforests. In addition,
the park is crisscrossed by a beautifully scenic natural
lagoon and navigable waterway network that forms the habitat
of animal species such as land turtles, manatees or sea
cows, crocodiles, a wide variety of crabs and 52 different
species of freshwater fish, including the gaspar fish.
The park includes a 5-km beach where the main attraction
is the arrival of green and leatherback turtles that lay
eggs along its shore.
