Location: Along the Central Volcanic Mountain Range,
in the Irazú area, 31 km northeast of the city of Cartago,
Oreamundo District, Cartago Province.
Irazú Volcano and Poás Volcano
together make up the most visited volcanic “pair”
in the country. With its craters at an altitude of 3,432 meters,
Irazú’s renown has been accentuated by its most
recent period of activity beginning in 1963, making it a symbol
for Costa Rican and foreign visitors that eagerly ascend to
its peak.
